Mutford Village Hall our home for club meetings, training and events. It is situated in the lovely village of Mutford not far from Lowestoft, Suffolk. We meet here twice a month (most months) for demonstrations by Professional turners, and for training and improving nights. Also held at the hall are all day demonstrations by Professional turners, often from further away.
The club was formed in the 1980's by a group of likeminded enthusiasts who met in each other's garages and workshops and were called North Suffolk Woodturners. After splitting into two groups, one moved south and the remainder stayed in this area. Numbers grew to 14 and after a visit to Norway in 1994, the membership grew and alternative venues were sort in the area including a number of pubs until finally moving to Mutford. It was then that the club was re-named as the Waveney and District Woodturners which was then affiliated to the AWGB. The aims and objectives also changed with new innovations in both lathe design and turning techniques. Thanks to a Lottery Fund Grant in 2015 we were able to purchase two smaller lathes, video/projection equipment to enhance our monthly demo evenings and run training nights to encourage new members. The club now has 50 plus members with vacancies for new members.

Training
We have provided some form of training over the past five years but in 2016 we were awarded a Lottery Funding Grant towards the purchase of new equipment through the hard work of the Committee. We now run one night most months for live training for new members and those wishing to improve their skills in a particular aspect of woodturning. Instruction covers Health and Safety, equipment and tool use plus various techniques leading to safe production of woodturning projects.
We provide various videos to help illustrate several areas of training.
In addition to hands on training, videos on equipment, we have a number of books and magazines for the use of members.
